founded over thirty years ago with the goal of assembling a group
of physician/scientists who are passionate about applying advanced
technologies for diagnosis and management of patients with
hematologic disorders. We are at the forefront of medical
diagnostics for hematologic malignancies and are pioneers in
residual disease detection using Difference from Normal approach.
We validated our approach for detection of residual disease in a
hematopoietic stem cell transplant setting in collaboration with
the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, where the diagnostic phenotype
is not available. We extended our approach to myelodysplastic
syndromes and initiated the European Leukemia Network MDS Working
Group. Hematologics has shown that the amounts of gene products,
throughout maturation from the hematopoietic stem cell to mature
blood cells, are invariant from individual to individual.
Disruption of this quantitative gene product expression is a
hallmark of neoplastic transformation and allows for the detection
of low levels of leukemia down to 0.02%. Hematologics is the
reference laboratory for Childrens Oncology Group and the Leukemia
Lymphoma Society AML studies and collaborates with clinicians at
major universities not only in the US but worldwide with more than
125 scientific publications. Our unique expertise has created in
international reputation as experts in lymphoid and myeloid
neoplasms for pediatrics as well as adult patients with a special
focus on patients with Down syndrome. Hematologics has routinely
used cell sorting to enrich cell populations for chimerism testing
post-transplant since 1998 and expanded the use of cell sorting
starting in 2004 to improve the sensitivity of molecular and FISH
assays The inter-disciplinary application, technical integration,
and understanding of multiple technologies are the foundation for
our exceptional service to our clients as well as ongoing learning
opportunities for our team members.
