As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts in the Legal and Compliance Department, you will provide multi-disciplinary support to the Department and the business on a variety of matters, such as operations, technology, regulatory, compliance and commercial transactions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will range from researching regulatory questions to managing Department-wide projects to handling commercial transactions. You will leverage your existing experience and background to address current needs for legal support to the business, and then over time, you will help the Department address emerging needs by developing new expertise in addition to your existing skill set. This role will be based in Kent, Washington. Responsibilities: Research and monitor key federal, state and local compliance requirements, whether industry best practices and guidelines or legal and regulatory obligations, including federal regulations from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as state and local environmental, health and safety regulations in Washington, Texas, Alabama and Florida Assist with development of scalable and sustainable legal operations processes, programs and tools to support the Department's effective and efficient delivery of legal services Assist with, or serve as project manager for, the implementation of new legal operations processes or technology tools Support and advise internal clients, and assist other attorneys, on the development and implementation of enterprise-wide regulatory and compliance processes, programs and policies Advise on various transactional matters, including software licenses, cloud or software-as-a-service subscriptions, direct material sourcing agreements, and professional service contracts Counsel cross-functional stakeholders on operational, technology, regulatory, compliance, and commercial matters Basic Qualifications: Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. college or university and membership in at least one U.S. state bar A minimum of 3 - 6 years of legal experience with a corporation, law firm, or federal government body Willingness to learn new skills and substantive legal areas in order to support multiple roles within the Department Prior experience handling regulatory matters and advising clients within a matrixed, enterprise-wide compliance program Prior experience managing or coordinating complex projects involving multiple stakeholders (such as large discovery or due diligence projects) Must be able to work efficiently and independently and communicate clearly and effectively (both verbally and in writing) Ability to react calmly and with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround and take effective action without knowing the whole picture Ability to earn trust, maintain productive work relationships, contribute to a culture of inclusion, work collaboratively across the company, and provide legal advice directly to clients of every level -from senior leadership to entry-level employees Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum Desired Qualifications: Prior experience with litigation Work experience prior to law school or experience working on the business side of a large corporation or federal government body Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies, such as Six Sigma or Lean A Master's or other advanced degree in a relevant field Familiarity with export control regulations, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations Familiarity with U.S. government contracting, including Federal Acquisition Regulations, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations, and agency-specific regulations To conform to U.S. Government commercial space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawfully admitted for permanent residence into the U.S. (i.e. current green card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1157-1158.
