Open Faculty and Staff Positions: South Kent School is hiring for the following positions Job Posting: April 2021High School STEM Teacher The primary goal of our STEM program is to develop flexible, creative, and confident problem solvers who feel challenged at the appropriate cognitive level. The curriculum requires each student to think logically, critically, and analytically. Teachers model resourceful and creative ways to approach unfamiliar problems so that students can become independent. Students learn to articulate their steps in problem solving, as well as how to assess accuracy and appropriateness of solutions. Ideal candidates are those who seek to partner with parents, collaborate with team members, demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, motivate students academically, and support students in developing their moral character. A firm understanding of differentiated instruction and 21st century skills should drive this candidate's instruction. Preferred Professional Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in secondary math or science education, or a degree in mathematics or science. Advanced degrees preferred. Effective classroom management practices to support the learning of all students. Previous high school teaching experience. Familiarity with independent school culture. Experience teaching STEM/Integrated curriculum. Work well with, and relate to, high school boys. Convey enthusiasm and excitement to help instill a desire to learn. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School. Support the school and its leadership. Teaching Responsibilities: Teach four STEM courses with a focus on upper level mathematics/science. Job Posting: April 2021Director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC)Job Summary The Director of the Academic Resource Center has the primary responsibility of providing support for students with learning differences. Additional duties include the oversight of ESL instruction, teaching students learning skills during elective periods, and managing other faculty associated with the resource center. The Director engages with other members of the teaching faculty on best instructional practices to educate all students. Engagement includes observing classrooms with the goal of improving instruction and student learning. The Director works closely with the Director of Academic Counseling, the Deans of STEM and Humanities, the faculty, and school counselors to advocate for and support the development of each student. Conditions: The ARC Director reports to the Chief Academic Officer and has at least one performance evaluation during the course of the school year completed by the Deans in conjunction with the Chief Academic Officer. The ARC Director must meet the obligations of all school employees as outlined in the employee handbook. Preferred Professional Qualifications: Advanced degree in education with a focus on learning differences, literacy or other instructional supports necessary for running a high school resource center. Demonstrate proficiency in working with students with learning differences, reading and literacy, learning strategies or some related field. Work well with, and relate to, high school boys and convey enthusiasm for learning and instilling a desire for learning. Demonstrate willingness to enhance skills in educational technology. Commit to helping our boys thrive inside and outside of the classroom. Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to design and implement plans to accommodate students with documented learning difficulties. Exhibit strong organizational skills and embrace the craft of teaching. Support the school and its leadership. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The ARC Director will: Partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with different learning styles and the teachers in their efforts to educate all students in their classes equitably. Manage the ARC, working with other faculty, including the ESL instructor, to ensure coverage of the center and supporting the educational needs of students assigned to the ARC, as well students who visit the center for support. Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges. Review documentation provided by the Admissions Office on student applicants and provide feedback on appropriateness of SKS enrollment and what supports will be needed. Participate in classroom instruction as needed. Direct one-on-one or small-group instruction through the school's ASAP (Academic Specialist Assistance Program) program. Initiate and schedule parent conferences as needed. Recommend in-school and community resources such as formal study hall, office hours, tutoring, counseling, skill building or formalized testing for identified students. Work with professionals outside the school to support students, such as tutors or medical professionals, or public school special education representatives. Coordinate and facilitate communication between student, family, advisor, school, and other involved professionals. Serve as the School's testing coordinator with relevant standardized testing bodies such as the College Board and the ACT. Develop and write student accommodation/learning plans with long-term goals and specific objectives. Provide regular written student-progress reports to the school and parents with assessment results and recommendations of diagnostic testing and remedial programs for learning-related issues. Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of sessions, meetings, and assessments. Work with the school to communicate with parents about upcoming standardized testing dates, including obtaining consent forms. Observe proper test security protocols as outlined by the College Board or other testing agencies, as well as generating testing rosters and Nonstandard Administration Reports for school-based testing. Secure and maintain training to be the school's standardized testing/Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) Coordinator and a testing proctor with the College Board. Secure standardized testing accommodations for qualifying students through the College Board or the ACT. Attend conferences and professional meetings in order to remain current with industry trends. Participate in committee, department, and staff meetings as well as school-sponsored events that would benefit from one's area of expertise. Be involved in the school community at large. Job Posting: February 2021 STEM Fellowship Conditions: This position is limited to a maximum of two years (effective July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2023) but may be ended at the discretion of the Head of School. The fellow reports to the STEM Department Dean and has at least two performance evaluations during the course of the school year completed by the Dean and the Chief Academic Officer. The fellow must meet the obligations of all school employees as outlined in the employee handbook. Responsibilities As a teaching fellow, you will Teach or Team Teach during each of the four academic quarters throughout the year; 8:30am - 9:50am and 1:10pm - 2:30pm Monday through Friday Teach or Team Teach during the summer as part of the School's acceleration or remediation programs Participate in academic planning meetings, STEM department meetings and Team/Faculty meetings Assist in planning, developing and implementing curriculum for the students as assigned by the Dean of the department. The curriculum shall include but not be limited to: mathematics, science, and social and emotional development in alignment with the School's characteristics.
