We provide proven value and predictable results in demanding and regulated markets by employing our core competencies in: + Project management + Product and System Engineering + Core Engineering disciplines + Knowledge integration + NPD and Sustaining Engineering What we are looking for As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for materials and process (M&P) engineering tasks related to the selection, design, and manufacturing of the customer system. These tasks include drawing reviews, material selection & characterization, supporting design for predic t ability , and quality process control. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. + Work with cross-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware + Provide M&P support/guidance to design engineers on metallic and non-metallic parts subject to hot gas, cryogenic, oxygen, fuel, and other challenging environments + Create test plans for qualifying raw materials, completed hardware, coatings and welds + Develop documentation relative to material sourcing, process qualification (internal or external), non-destructive inspection strategies as well as data generation in a launch vehicle environment + Execute root cause and corrective actions as needed + Deliver internally-reviewed reports & presentations of completed work + Ensure M&P design requirements are met through the review and refinement of part designs, drawings and manufacturing controls Education/Exper ience + B.S. degree or higher in materials science & engineering, mechanical engineering or related field Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. + B.S. degree or higher in materials science & engineering, mechanical engineering or related field + 7+ years experience (5+ with M.S.) in the field of metallurgy, with deep knowledge of the interplay between composition, process, microstructure & properties in one or more alloy systems (Al, Ni, Fe, Ti) + 2+ years experience in a materials & processes role for an aerospace organization + Proven experience qualifying processes and parts within an aerospace or gas turbine environment + Proven experience sourcing, analyzing, manufacturing, and testing of aerospace grade materials such as Al, Ni, Ti, stainless steel, etc. + Experience developing and executing plans for material characterization, such as mechanical testing, thermal analysis, chemical analysis, and corrosion testing + Experience supporting design and manufacturing teams in an aerospace environment, including preparing specifications, test reports, and design substantiation documentation + Proven experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, resources, and managing budgets + Experience with statistical treatment of test data and the generation of design values + Experience interacting with aerospace suppliers, including on-site engineering audits, technical interchanges, supplier qualifications and statistical process controls + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with a diversity of systems. + Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum Desired skills + 3+ years experience working for a producer of wrought aerospace metallic materials + 3+ years experience in a materials & processes role for an aerospace organization, including in reviewing & approving component & assembly drawings + Experience defining and testing cryogenic material performance + Deep knowledge of the metallurgy & properties of Ni-based superalloys and at least one other aerospace-relevant alloy system + Knowledge of aerospace fasteners and fastener test methods + Working knowledge of fracture and fatigue testing and data analysis + Experience of corrosion testing methods; good understanding of corrosion mechanisms + Working knowledge of hydrogen embrittlement phenomena This job description doesn't constitute a contract of employment and Syncroness may exercise its employment-at-will rights at any time.
