The incumbent is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of production department operations which also includes performance of all functions within the department. All job duties are to be performed in accordance with the company's Principles of Ethical Business Conduct.

  1. Lead, coach, mentor, motivate and inspire direct reports to achieve an optimum level of performance by consistently demonstrating role model behavior.

  2. Plan and direct production activities and establish production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.

  3. Coordinate production activities with warehouse, procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of machines and equipment.

  4. Conduct Daily Production meeting.

  5. Review and analyze quality, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems.

  6. Compiles, distributes, evaluates, and actions production metrics.

  7. Develop and revise production schedules and priorities as a result of customer requirements, equipment failure, or operating problems.

  8. Consult with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.

  9. Identify and develop continuous improvements to production processes with the supervisors and Lead Lean expert.

  10. Ensures process corrective actions are addressed in a timely manner and are effective, including conducting audits of effectiveness.

  11. Ensure that supervisors are aware of and adhere to plan safety rules and regulations. Works with the supervisors to develop a safety culture with zero accidents/incidents.

  12. Ensure that equipment is maintained and operated in a safe manner.

  13. Maintain a clean environment that enhances plant safety. Conduct 5S audits. Ensure 5S audit actions are addressed in a timely manner and are effective.

  14. Ensure that employees know and understand customer and quality requirements and standards.

  15. Set the quality direction to maintain production throughput while meeting/exceeding quality requirements.

  16. Maintain employee awareness and adherence to ISO standards and procedures.

  17. Lead successful output of site production operations and achievement of operational goals.

  18. Set goals for employees throughout and/or department standards.

  19. Evaluate and provide training as needed, setting in place a long-term training strategy.

  20. Evaluate equipment needs and propose changes to meet site objectives.

  21. Assign employees to work schedules, work centers, and plan appropriate levels based on production needs and capacity.

  22. Troubleshoot processes and/or procedures.

  23. Review site operations goals with department employees.

  24. Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports in a timely manner. Recommend increases in compensation i n accordance with pre-determined guidelines.

  25. Ensures that all aspects of the Quality Policy and Objectives as well as OSHA rules and regulations are understood and enacted.

  26. Participate in and satisfactorily complete all required training programs for the assigned position.

  27. Perform other duties assigned by management representatives within the scope of responsibility and the requirements of the job.

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization are required.
  • A primary focus on safety, quality, maintenance, throughput and profitability.
  • Strong mechanical skills as it relates to the pressroom and folding carton finishing.
  • A very good understanding of internal and external customer expectations.
  • A self-directed work ethic with the ability to develop and track measurements leading to process improvement.
  • A proactive business approach with a strong sense of urgency. Must be able to work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer systems is required including: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and email systems). Web-based program experience is a plus.
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.
  • Ability to motivate and delegate tasks to subordinates and ensure follow through.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Actively involved and engaged as a leader in all areas of the company.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering or related fields is preferred but not required. Equivalent work experience in a similar position is acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a manufacturing supervisor for a Packaging facility.
  • A minimum of 7 years of technical process and materials knowledge (Offset Printing, Die Cutting and Folding Gluing) is preferred.
