OverviewExperienced MachinistAs our Machinist you will work on cutting edge products within a cross function team of machine operators, production management and design engineers. This is a hands on roll to produce standard and custom machined parts and tooling by programming, setting up, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining and procuring equipment and supplies. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments, participating in lean manufacturing practices and sessions and operating 5S principles in the workplace. Must be a creative thinker to machine unique tooling and machine elements for a continual stream of custom products and projects.Shift: Monday - Thursday 4:00pm - 2:30amResponsibilitiesGeneral Machine Operation and maintenance:* Machine a variety of steel, aluminum and plastic parts that conform to drawing specifications using CNC lathes, milling machines, etc. Create machine programs and troubleshoot new and existing programs. Collaborate with engineering staff to help generate machining concepts and process flow for new products.* Support projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection and testing.* Evaluate existing machining process and recommend modifications as seen fit.* Set schedules and direct work for other machine operators.* Work with QA and engineering staff to set and evaluate measurement requirements.* Perform basic machinist duties including; Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines. Create tooling for machines as required.* Monitor machine while working to adjust feed, speed, maintain temperature and identify problem issues.* Operate light duty bench or floor type machine tools and equipment.* Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine the need for adjustments or repairs.* Report/log any machine related issues to management.* will be responsible for carrying out regular/set checks - (preventative maintenance requirements) - to ensure machinery is functioning correctly. Potential issues must be reported to management. Repair minor machine problems, coordinate major machine repairs with vendors.* Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and tidy area at all times.* Work within existing MRP system to track and plan production work and flow.* Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.* Inspect machined parts to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects. Report any non-conformance issues to managementQualificationsRequires a high school diploma or equivalent including high school shop courses; AA degree or machine operations / electronics technician or equivalent a plus.Must have minimum of 5 years machining experience, including programingTechnical skills/knowledge* Working knowledge of shop mathematics is necessary required with a high mechanical ability* Ability to read and write English* Ability to use precision measurement tools and systems* Math skills including percentages, fractions, dimensioning, and geometry* Skilled in reading and understanding basic blueprints and schematics* Skilled in mechanical assembly and/or general mechanics* Basic knowledge of steel and aluminum materials properties* Some familiarity with welding, heat treating and plating finishes for steel* Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to work with a cross functional team* Skilled in operating various types of CNC machines* Ability to lift occasionally 50 pounds and frequently 40 pounds from the floor to shoulder height* Required to stoop, bend and reach. Must be able to move parts from one section of the production area to another* Ability to work in a busy work area with loud noise from machines and air guns
