Job Title: Safety Coordinator, Maritime Shipyard

Department: Safety

Reports to: EHS Manager



Position Summary:

Safety coordinator will assess the health and safety standards in our workplace. The safety coordinator is also responsible for educating employees on how to follow health and safety protocols more closely. To be successful as a safety coordinator you must have attention to detail and have excellent communication skills. A good safety coordinator has a methodical approach to improving health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities are to ensure safety policies and company rules are enforced, and to:

  • Support the Safety Training Program to ensure employees understand & comply with all federal, state, local and company safety rules & regulations
    • - - - -
    • Ensure employees comply with OSHA rules and regulations. - - - -
    • Assist in injury/incident investigation program, inclusive of root cause analysis and corrective action development and completion - - - -
    • Disseminate company safety policies to all employees - - - -
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting, perform other EHS duties as assigned. - - - -
    • Assist with internal audit inspections related to the EHS program requirements - - - -
    • Where applicable, establish working relationship with contractor/customer safety committees. - - - -
    • Uses every opportunity to drive EHS awareness by demonstrating safe behavior, continuous self-development, and education in areas of environmental, health & safety compliance, industry trends and regulatory developments - - - -

        • Degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or natural sciences - - - - - - - - - - - -
        • Experience:

          • 5 years' experience in environment, safety and health management - - - - - - - -
          • Experience with safety management systems such as ISO 45001 - - - - - - - - - - - -
          • Skills:

            • Understanding of company Quality, Environmental & Safety manual and procedures described therein - - - - - - - -PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

              Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Barge chemical environment. Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing. Able to work in confined space, heights and operate equipment efficiently and safely. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work.

              WORK ENVIRONMENT:

              While in production areas the person will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts, and odors. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
