Save Description The Department of Children, Youth, and Families is a new cabinet agency in Washington State. The Internship Opportunity: We have one opportunity for a transitioning service member to experience what it is like to be a part of a communications team in a state agency. This unpaid opportunity is part of a partnership with WorkEx/PacMtn. Our communications team is located in our Headquarters building at 1500 Jefferson Street. As a Communications Intern, you will get to experience what civilian employment with a state agency is like, before you even get off of terminal leave! Some of what you'll do: Support the work of the Communications Division by writing weekly positive stories through staff interviews for the DCYF Digest and the Caregiver Connection. Review e-mail communications daily in both the internal and external communication inboxes. The fellow will review requests and route the request to the proper communications team member. Update the DCYF external website What's New tab with positive stories, announcements, latest news, internal staff updates appropriate for external audiences and post updates to the sole source tab. Support the multimedia team with photography requests and studio support and attend leadership events to serve as photography support. Input data into the newsroom tracking document, compile and research newsrooms contact information, send the weekly look ahead and compile stories for the DCYF Digest and maintain the DCYF Digest content calendar. What we're looking for: Passion for researching and writing unique and positive stories about the work of DCYF. Demonstrated history of strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Six months or more of communications experience. Demonstrated history of successfully organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Interest in communications work, engaging with reporters and connecting with different staff within DCYF. Benefits of Becoming a Fellow: Experience within a state agency.
