Share and champion best practices and a high level of teamwork within the Estimating Department. Provide leadership, vision, training and technical skill to the Company's Mechanical & Plumbing estimating process, coordinating efforts with Business Group Leaders, Construction Executives, Sales Reps, Project Directors and the Estimating Department to promote and continue the growth of the Company and its employees Participate with company Executive Leadership Team and Business Group Leaders in determining what types of (and/or specific) projects to bid, related market pricing strategies, risk/reward assessments, etc. Review final estimate packages to assure accuracy of cost data and completeness of project scope prior to formal quotation or project budget presentation. Creation, management and administration of Estimating Department functions including annual operating budgets, staffing (both from an ability and quantity standpoint), wage reviews, personnel development/advancement determination, work assignments, 1 to 1's, etc. Assemble complete and responsible conceptual budgets for projects prior to development of 100% construction documents. Track and maintain field and shop production information for use as metrics in estimates. Participate in presentations to clients. Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships within the "General Contractor, Sub-Contractor and Vendor community" to build upon and assure the Company's competitive position. Provide technical assistance to Business Group Leaders, SPD & ODS Project Executives, Construction Executives and Project Directors in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. Implement updates of material pricing and discounts. Participate in creating and maintaining company standard Autodesk Service Templates for use by Estimating, Detailing and Engineering Departments. Establish and implement training plan for junior estimators as well as the estimating leg of Hermanson's career development program. Compile and maintain Sales KPI metric reports for Business Units. Accountabilities & KPIs: Responsible for estimating and / or budgeting, in cooperation with Business Group Leaders, SPD & ODS Project Executives, Project Management and Estimating Department. Qualifications: Ten (10) or more years' experience in HVAC/piping mechanical construction estimating and/or related functions. Must have a working knowledge of estimating as a discipline, estimating strategies and techniques, and Mechanical construction as applicable to the HVAC and/or Plumbing contracting business. Must have Preconstruction estimating experience. Must have a working knowledge of and be skilled in the use of industry standard estimating tools including Autodesk Fabrication Est MEP and Autobid (Quickpen). Must have the ability to put together ROM, SD, DD & CD level budgets and present budget detail to internal and external customers with confidence. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal contract documents, and possess the ability to effectively present information to management, peers and subordinates both verbally and in writing. Must have the ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory, and possess the ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems. Must have the ability to operate a personal computer using spreadsheet, word processing, and database software. Must have the ability to influence, develop skill sets and provide guidance towards potential advancement for all department personnel. Must be a disciplined, strategic thinker and possesses a holistic view of Hermanson's business, building and nurturing key relationships focusing on desired outcomes and creating a competitive advantage for our entire business. Must possess the ability to work in a collaborative, moderately noisy environment. In order to fulfil this role, the employee is required to be fully mobile and have good communication skills. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color and close vision. Education: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in engineering or construction management from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
